Leonard's Story.
Leonard Brown was born in Mobberley, Cheshire in 1887, one of six children born to Alfred (a hay-cutter) and Sarah (a laundress) of Brownedge, Mobberley. Leonard was a poulterer.
His service records no longer exist but we know he enlisted in the army at Salford sometime after 1915 and became Private no 11772 in the 16th Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers, later transferring to the 63rd company of the Machine Gun Corp as Private no. 14816. Leonard was posted as missing presumed killed on the 1st July 1916.
