Birkenhead News  13 June 1917

BIRKENHEAD PARENTS BEREAVED.

Two Sons Lost in the War.

Official intimation of the death in action on April 30th, of their fifth son, Private John Harry Richards, has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Richards, of 28, Elgin Street, Birkenhead. Private Richards joined the Cheshire Regt. in January, 1916, and went to Mesopotamia nine months ago. He was educated at Holy Trinity School, afterwards being employed by Mr. Pickles, grocer, of Sandford Street, Birkenhead, with whom he worked for about nine years. For a short while before enlisting he was in the employ of Messrs, Irwin, Sons and Co. Ltd. The late soldier would have attained his 21st birthday last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Richards suffered the loss some two years ago of their third son, who died from wounds received in action.
