Guardian Article 21st May 1915, P5/C5;   MID CHESHIRE OFFICER KILLED   LIEUTENANT E. TAYLOR FALLS IN ACTION.
It was with feelings of sincere regret that the friends of Mr. and Mrs J. Buckley Taylor of the Oaklands, Gorstage, near Northwich learned on Monday that their only son, Lieutenant E. Taylor, of the 18th Hussars, had been killed in action. Lieutenant Taylor, who was the eldest grandson of the late Mr. Edward Hulton, founder of the “Daily Dispatch” and kindred papers spent two or three years after leaving collage in learning the business of newspaper production. He was always interested however in military affairs and first of all became identified with the artillery section of the Lancashire Territorials. Eventually he decided to take up a military career and in 1913 obtained a commission in the 18th Hussars. He proved himself a very capable officer and his genial disposition made him exceedingly popular in the regiment.
The 18th Hussars went out with the first draft of the Expeditionary Force and Lieutenant Taylor had been in action on numerous occasions. When he left England he held the rank of second lieutenant and his conspicuous bravery in several engagements resulted in his being promoted to first lieutenant some three months after he had been at the Front. His men speak of him as a very courageous officer and the coolness which he displayed under very trying circumstances earned for him the highest commendations of his superior officers.
