William George's Story.

Born and enlisted Crewe. Son of George Needham of 148, Henry Street, Crewe and husband of Annie Needham of 73a, Derby Street, Crewe. He was previously an apprentice fitter in the Crewe North Steam Sheds and went to France on October 5, 1915. Killed when a shell landed in the trench he was occupying. His daughter later wrote: ‘I walked with father to the railway station, holding his hand as tightly as I could, as I didn’t want him to go to the war. Just before the shops, he bent down and kissed me on my cheek and asked me to be a good girl for mother and to try hard at school. He was still waving as he disappeared around the corner – I would never see him again.’
