Leonard's Story.
Leonard Capper is remembered at Christ Church, Barnton and the memorial records he was with a Welsh Regiment.
C.W.G.C. remember a Leonard Capper, Pte., with the Service No 290691, of the 15 Bn., Welsh Regiment, who died on the 18th September 1918, aged 21, at the VIS-EN-ARTOIS Memorial (Panel 7). Son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Capper of New Rd., Anderton, Northwich, Cheshire.
Cheshirebmd records the birth of a Leonard Capper in 1897 in Northwich. The 1911 census finds Leonard living with a Thomas and Sarah Bramhall at Anderton, Leonard is seen as a servant, aged 14 and a Labourer on the Farm.
Northwich Guardian 25th October 1918; PRIVATE LEONARD CAPPER
Mr. and Mrs. A. Capper of New Road, Anderton, have received news from the War Office that their son, Private Leonard Capper was killed in action on September 18th. Private Capper who was 21 years of age, enlisted about two years ago and went ot the front in 1917. After six months active service he returned to England suffering from dysentery. He was drafted out again in August this year. He was formerly in the employ of the Ammonia Soda Co. Plumbley. His fiance was expecting him home to be married.
Comrades Sympathy
On Wednesday Mrs Capper received the following letter from the Officer Commanding the deceased’s company:- “Reference to your letter of the 10th inst. It is with deepest regret that I have the painful duty to inform you of the death of your son, Private L. Capper. He was killed in action on September 18. He loss was felt keenly by all his comrades and they all join me in sending their fullest sympathy with the family in their deep sorrow.”
