Corporal George Riley.

The sister in charge of a hospital abroad has written to Mr and Mrs David Riley, of the post office, Wincham, Northwich, as follows.

“I am very sorry to have to tell you that corporal Riley, have died and No. - casualty clearing station. He was suffering from septicaemia and was only ill a few days. Everything possible was done for him and he had every care and attention. I am so grieved we could not save him for you what we tried to make his last hours as peaceful and as easy as possible. He was very anxious that you should not worry and asked me to give you, his love.”

Corporal Riley who was 21 years of age, was an employee of Messrs Brunner Mond and Co., at Winnington. He enlisted on New Year's Day 1915 and during his training he earned a first-class certificate for bomb throwing, and for some time before going to the front he acted as a bomb instructor.
