Ernest Arthur's Story.
LANCE-CORPORAL E. A. ASTON.
News has been received by Mr. and Mrs. H. Aston, the Firs Farm, Haughton, that their youngest son, Lance-Corporal E. A. Aston, was killed in action on November 6th. He joined the Cheshire Yeomanry in January, 1916, and was sent to France in August the same year. He was wounded in October, 1917. On his recovery he was sent to Italy, and brought back to France about two months ago, where he made the supreme sacrifice. His genial disposition gained him many friends. The following letter has been received by his parents from his captain:
“I regret to inform you that your son, Lance-corporal E. A. Aston, of my company, was killed in action on the 6th of November. He was acting on an advance guard on that date, and we were pressing the enemy retirement hard when your son was shot and killed. He was a good soldier, and had all the qualities that go to the making of an excellent N.C.O., and I greatly deplore his loss. I cannot give you exact details of his burial, as we were advancing rapidly at the time, but undoubtedly you will receive them in due course from the proper authorities. I deeply sympathize with you in your great loss, coming as it does at the very end of this great struggle.”
