Mrs. Edith Shaw, of 43, The Diamond, Port Sunlight, has been informed that her husband, Sergt. Richard Shaw, of the Canadian Pioneers, has been killed in action on April 20th. Sergt. Shaw, who was the second son of Mrs. Jane Shaw, of New Chester Road, Port Sunlight, enlisted in the Canadians at the outbreak of war, and had served for 15 months in France. He was home on leave some five months ago, during which time he got married to Miss Edith Lucas, a South End resident. Sergt. Shaw, who was 36 years of age, was for 6 years in British Columbia, and when the Mother Country was calling to her sons across the seas, he was one of the first to respond.
For 11 years prior to going abroad the dead Sergeant worked at Messrs. Cammell Laird’s, and therefore will be remembered by many who are still at the yard. His younger brother Frank is a member of the Cheshire Field Co., R.E., is at home recuperating from wounds, and expects to proceed back to the front at the end of the week.
