Rock Ferry Officer’s Death

Second-Lieut. V. C. Shaw.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Shaw, of 17, Highfield South, Rock Ferry, have lost their second son, 2nd Lieut. Victor Chas. Shaw, who died from erysipelas and broncho-pneumonia whilst on active service. Second-Lieut. Shaw, who was in his 23rd year, was educated at Birkenhead School. He joined the Army in February, 1914, while he was serving his apprenticeship with Messrs. S. M. Bulley and Son, cotton merchants, Liverpool, with whom he was on the outbreak of war. He accepted a commission in the Artillery in August, 1915, and had been fighting for seven months before his death. He was well-known in athletic circles, having been a member of the Birkenhead Park Football Club and the Mersey Rowing Club. Mr. and Mrs. Shaw have two other sons with the forces.
