James's Story.
James Hendry was born in 1881 in Scotland son of Andrew, a solicitor, and Ann Hendry, of Dundee.He married Anita Macdonald Mitchell in 1909.
In 1911 he was living with wife Anita in 21 Glenmore Road Oxton. His occupation is mechanical engineer (and employer). They employ a cook and a housemaid.
James Hendry was a Lance Corporal in the Kings Liverpool later promoted to Captain in the Royal Scots Regiment, serving in the 16th Battalion (Lothian Regiment).
At the time of his death his wife Anita Hendry, was living at "Amgask," Vyner Rd., Birkenhead.
Captain Hendry died of wounds and is buried at the St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen

Oxton Officer Dies of Wounds.
News has been received of the death of Captain James Hendry, Royal Scots. He died on the 6th inst. at Rouen of wounds received on August 2. He was the youngest son of the late Mr. Andrew Hendry, solicitor, Braeknowe, Dundee. An electrical engineer by profession, he served his early training in Glasgow and Pittsburgh, subsequently being engaged as a consulting engineer in Rochdale. He was educated at Merchiston Castle, and had settled in Oxton, where he was well-known and greatly respected, his home being at 3, Bidston Road. At the outbreak of the war he enlisted as a private in the King’s (Liverpool Regiment), and in January, 1915, he received a commission in a well-known battalion of the Royal Scots. He married in 1909 Anita, daughter of Mr. A.C. Mitchell of Liverpool.
