Birkenhead News 05 December 1917YOUNGEST SON OF A GALLANT SIRE FALLS.
Mr. And Mrs. Davies of 57, Beverley Road, New Ferry, have received official news of the death of their youngest son, Pte. William Davies, Northumberland Fusiliers, who was wounded in action and died on Oct. 27th. This young hero, who was only 20 years of age, was a bugler when he was 17 in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, and took part in the Dardanelles operations, during which he contracted dysentery. He was invalided home and afterwards transferred to a cyclist battalion and drafted to France, where he was attacked with trench feet and was again invalided to Blighty. After recovering from that he was attached to the Northumberland Fusiliers, and went out to them in August last.
Two older brothers of the deceased are at present serving in his Majesty’s Forces, and the father of these gallant sons has also been with the colours. He enlisted in the R.W.F. at the outbreak of war, he being 65 years of age, and was discharged after 12 months’ service.
