George Edward's Story.

George Edward Baskerville was born in 1899, one of seven children born to John and Mary Ann Baskerville of Holly Cottage Marthall, Cheshire. He worked as a farm labourer.

He enlisted in the army becoming Private no. 3025 (later re-numbered to 290862) of the 1/7th Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment.

George was killed in action on the 23rd July 1918.

On that fateful day:

The war diary states:

23.7.18 Village of Parcy Tigny.

Considerable opposition was met with from the enemy machine guns in BOIS de REUGNY and from the high ground on our right front. Owing to insufficient support on both flanks the Battalion was unable to advance any further and the ine was consolidated.. The support and reserve companies were moved up to the OLD PARIS TRENCH line. Throughout the day PARCY TIGNY was subjected to heavy bursts of enemy shell fire.

Approx casualties for the day 180.
