ONE OF THREE BROTHERS KILLED
Pte. F. Williams, Cheshire Regiment, son of Mrs. Gregory, 9, Combermere Terrace, Birkenhead, is reported killed in action on March 27. He was 27 years of age, and was previously employed by the Great Western Railway goods department as a porter.
Two brothers of the late soldier are serving, one in Egypt, where he has been for three years, and the other in France. Mrs. Gregory has received the following sympathetic letter from her son’s captain :- “I am so sorry to write these lines about your son – he was such a splendid fellow. I don’t think I ever knew a man so willing. To be a stretcher-bearer is no easy job out here, and he always fulfilled his duty until the end. His platoon officer and I cannot speak too highly of him, and his place will be hard to fill.
