LOST ON A DESTROYER

Young Seaman’s End

On Thursday last it was reported that a British destroyer had been lost in the channel. Amongst the members of the crew who were lost appears the name of Stoker George Frederick McDonnell the 18 ½ year old son of Mrs. and the late Richard McDonnell, of 390, Brook Street. The unfortunate youth had only been in the Navy for three months and was previously on the “Celtic,” the trip before she sunk. He also had a narrow escape when he failed to sail with the ill-fated “Alcantara,” a victim of the last German raider.
