Arthur Thomas's Story.

ROCK FERRY “GOLIATH” VICTIM.

Leading Torpedo-man’s Fate.

PROMISING CAREER CUT SHORT.

The sinking of H.M.S. Goliath in the Dardanelles last week brought sorrow to Mr. and Mrs. J. Healey, of 20, Haddon Road, Rock Ferry, whose only son Arthur Thomas Healey has almost entirely been lost. He was only 21 years of age, but nevertheless was leading torpedo-man on the vessel. No news has been received of him, and the worst is feared. Mr. Healey sen., is an old Customs officer, who has seen 28 years in the Navy, and is now serving on H.M.S. Impregnable. He came home from Devonport on Thursday, after seeing the last list of the survivors, in which his son’s name does not appear.

Arthur Thomas Healey was a native of Cornwall, and before the outbreak of war he came home and went through the torpedo school, after which he was transferred to the Goliath. Previous to going to the Dardanelles the Goliath was patrolling round the coasts of India, and had prior to her sinking only been in the Dardanelles engagement a week. Very sincere sympathy goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Healey in their sad bereavement.
