Gordon Harold's Story.

Gordon Harold Groom was born on 2nd May 1932, one of ten brothers, eight of whom served in the forces. Pte Groom was the youngest child of William and Florence (nee Davenport) Groom of Staffordshire. His elder brother, Frank, had been killed on active service in Italy in 1941.

Gordon died in Korea on 29th October 1951, aged nineteen. It appears that he was wounded during the handover of sentry duty, at around 4.15am on the morning of the 29th at the Norwegian Mobile Army Surgical Hospital.

Gordon was carrying personal letters, which were returned to his family. From the information taken at the time of his death, we know that Gordon was 5' 11" in height with brown hair.

Gordon was buried in the Military Cememtry on 1st November at 2pm, the service conducted by Captain Robert J Dwyer, Chaplain.

Posthumous medal
Sixty two years later, in 2013, 76-year-old John Groom received a posthumous medal on behalf of his late brother Gordon, who served in the Korean War of 1950-3, at a special presentation held at the Moulton branch of the Royal British Legion. Gordon's history had been researched by members of the local RBL.
