William H.'s Story.

St Marys Weaverham, “Roll of Honour records two lads named Voinus;
S. (Samuel Thomas) Voinus; “Fallen” (cheshirebmd does not record a Samuels birth but freebmd does record the birth of a Samuel Thomas Voinus in the Northwich area in 1888.) See Samuel Voinus for his story.
W. (William Henry) Voinus; (cheshirebmd records a William H. born 1893 Weaverham)

William Henry, (Pte.)
N.A.M.C. The name Voinus is quite unusual and the N.A.M.C. prove its rareness by only having two medal cards and that is for these two brothers. The medal card for William has him with the Army Cyclist Corps. Reg’t. No. 9165, and Essex Reg. No 58752 (Pte.) He was awarded British, Victory and 15 Star medals. The Theatre of War was France; Date of Entry 8th Nov. 1915.

Freebmd records William H. Voinus marrying Emma M. Siddall in the March Q. of 1920. Cheshirebmd records this at Barton Methodist Church, (Oakwood Lane.)

The Northwich Guardian article, dated 4th Aug. 1916 on Lance-Corporal Samuel Voinus mentions a brother and that he was with the Army Cyclist Corps. With the N.A.M.C. only having 2 medal cards for lads named Voinus ensures we have the brothers.

W.H. Voinus is named in a Guardian article for returning soldiers from WW2, “Welcome Home Party” he, at that time, was secretary with the Co. Op’s Employees Benevolent Fund Committee.
