Arthur's Story.
EARLY LIFE
Arthur Connor was born in 1895 (registered as Arthur O'Conner) and baptised at St Paul's Church, Macclesfield on 19 September 1895, the son of Jane and Patrick Connor, a stone breaker of 1 Hope St, Macclesfield. In 1901 five-year-old Arthur was living at 7 George St with his mother Jane, who was employed as a charwoman, and siblings Winifred (13), Jane (12), William (11) and Bernard (7). The family's name was recorded in the 1901 census as O'Connor.
By 1911 the family had moved to 39 James St, Macclesfield and Arthur was employed as a 'machine watcher'. The family later moved to 12 Peel Street, Macclesfield.
After the war ended, Arthur's mother Jane lived at 99 Chester Rd, Macclesfield.
WW1 SERVICE
Arthur enlisted in Macclesfield and after training was drafted to France.
In December 1917 Arthur was reported missing and he was later presumed to have died on or since 3 December 1917.

COMMEMORATION
Private Arthur Connor has no known grave and is commemorated on panel ref. 5 on the Cambrai Memorial, France.
In Macclesfield, Private Arthur Connor is commemorated on the Park Green, Town Hall, St Michael’s Church and St George's Men's Bible Association war memorials, and on St John's Church Roll of Honour.
