Alfred Eric's Story.
Alfred Moseley died on 22nd June 1943, aged 28, in Thailand. He was a Lance Corporal in the Royal Army Medical Corps.
Alfred Eric Mosley was born on 21st June 1915, in Alsager. He was the son of Robert Moseley (1879 - 1945) and Elizabeth Ann nee Bebbington (1884–1947), and brother to Sydney Robert Moseley (1904–1997), Fredrick James Moseley (1906–1972), Harry Moseley (1909–1988), George Moseley (1911–1991), Florence G Moseley (1913–1914), Freda May Moseley (1917–2006) and Ernest Moseley (1922–1992). In 1921, the family home was at 102 Crewe Road, Alsager. His father Robert was a sexton and grave digger.
By September 1939 Alfred was working as a male nurse, and the 1939 Register shows him living at Fern Villa, High Street, Bassett(?) near Thurrock in Essex. In the late summer of 1941, Alfred married 24 year old Mary Penelope Preston (1917– 2013) at Whitchurch, Buckinghamshire. Her address in 1942 was Hall Barn, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
By 15th February 1942, Alfred was a prisoner of war in Singapore.
He died on 22nd June 1943, in Thailand, and is buried at Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.
His widow Mary ("Pen") married Donald F Burrows (1919–1991) in 1955. In 1970, she was living at Ardene, 10 St Johns Avenue, Penn, Tylers Green, Buckinghamshire. She died in 2013, aged 96.
Alfred is remembered on the war memorial in Alsager, with his name inscribed on the north face.
He is also named on his parents' gravestone in Christ Church, Alsager.
