David's Story.

Mr D.P Corning
Mr. D. P. Corning, son of Mrs Corning, of 39 Cavendish Drive, Rock Ferry has for six years been a member of “E” Company of the 4th Cheshire’s and is now corporal in “C” Company. Mr. Corning is a prominent gymnast connected with our local Y.M.C.A., a leader of the Birkenhead Gymnasium and a winner of numerous medals in national and local competitions.
David was discharged to commission 14 October 1915. Serving with Cheshire Regiment throughout the war.
Born 17 September 1889 in Glasgow, by 1901 David his mother and sibling were living in Birkenhead. In the 1911 census David is listed as age 21, his mother, Rhoda is a widow, David had elder brother, Frederick and a sister Dorothy, age 16. His occupation is listed as a cotton Broker, In the second quarter of 1915 he married Daisy Bryan.
In 1925, David was still living at 39 Cavendish Drive and then by 1930 he had moved to 12 North Road, Birkenhead. The 1939 register lists that the family had moved to 14 St. Mary’s Crescent, Hendon, David was still working as a Cotton Broker and was also listed as a Captain in the Territorial Army, reserve of army officers. It is believed that David served as a captain in WW2 with the Cheshire Regiment and then The Buffs.
The probate register lists David Prior Corning of Ingleside, 40 Landsdowne Avenue, Slough, Buckinghamshire, died 15th July 1965 at Slough Railway Station.
