Birkenhead News 16 July 1916
Popular Heswall Sergt.
Death of a “Gallant and True” Soldier.
Sad news was conveyed last week in a letter from Captain Stubbs, of the 6-7th Liverpool Rifles, to Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Hinde, of Heswall and New Brighton, informing them of the death in action of their eldest son, Sergt. H. E. Hinde. The Captain speaks of the Sergt. as a gallant and true British soldier.
Sergeant “Ted” Hinde was very popular in the district, and the news came as a great shock to his many friends. He joined the Liverpool Rifles on the outbreak of the war, and had been in France over 12 months. He was 22 years of age, and was educated at the Rossall School. In business he was with the firm of Messrs. Minoprio and Co., cotton merchants, Liverpool. Lieut. S. N. Hinde, his younger brother, is a machine gun officer with the Cheshires.
