Wendelin Bernard's Story.
Wendelin Bernard Bettin was born in Watson Saskatchewan on 14th June 1916 to parents August and Mary Bettin. He worked as a labourer on his father’s farm until he enlisted in the RCAF on 4th November 1941 when he volunteered for aircrew duties. He was selected as a Wireless Operator/ Gunner and completed his initial training in Canada before transferring to UK arriving in England on 2nd July 1943. On 28th July 1943 he was assigned to 11 Radio School for further training. On 28th August 1943 he was killed along with 3 other crew members when the Blackburn Botha aircraft serial L6202 they were flying in crashed into Llwytmor peak in Wales. The accident investigation found that they were flying outside the area they had been authorized to fly in and had descended through cloud when they hit the peak. Wendelin was buried at Blacon cemetery.
