Frank's Story.

Sergeant Frank Shaw, from Crewe, serving with the Royal Engineers was awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal (D.C.M.) and the Military Medal (M.M.) He went to France 26 August 1915, he was demobbed 20 March 1919.

Sergeant Shaw’s D.C.M.

Under fire for fourteen hours.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Shaw, 38 Alton street, Crewe, have now received the official notification of the award of the D.C.M.  to their son, Sergeant Frank Shaw of the Royal Engineers. The medal was awarded:

For Conspicuous gallantry and coolness under heavy shell on June 7th. Corporal F Shaw was one of a party constructing a strong point in the newly captured trenches. He was under continuous shell fir for fourteen hours and rallied his men when they were scattered. When his sergeant was wounded, Corporal F Shaw took over his duties, and his fine example and coolness largely contributed to the successful completion of the work.

Sergeant Shaw was promoted from Corporal to sergeant on the field.
