Birkenhead News 21 April 1920

DEATH OF MR. M. G. EDGAR.

A well-known Oxton family has sustained bereavement by the death, which took place on Sunday, at his residence, 5 Arnside Road, of Mr. Martin Gregan (Jack) Edgar, third son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar, of Kingsmead Road North. He was only 37 years of age, but had been ill for a long time, his death being in reality due to an illness contracted while serving with the forces in France. Sincere regret will be felt at his death by a large circle who enjoyed his friendship, and deep sympathy with his wife, who before her marriage was Miss. Gaskell – a member of a family long associated with the activities of Birkenhead.
The deceased came of a family famous for its Rugby football associations. He was a brother of Mr. C. S. Edgar (England), and of the late Mr. Harold Edgar, of Park and Cheshire fame, who was killed in the Gallipoli landing. All four brothers joined up in 1914, “Jack” going out with the Liverpool Scottish. He was a popular member of the Oxton Cricket Club, which he warmly supported although not a prominent player.
It may be recalled that the late Mr. Harold Edgar took a leading part in the production of the Birkenhead Dramatic Society in the days when Mr. Harold Smith, M.P. was actively associated with it.
