Barnston Soldier’s Funeral.

The funeral of Private Fred Smith, fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Smith, of Barnston Common, took place at Barnston Parish Church on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. T. H. Jones (curate of Heswall) officiating.

Deceased died on the 17th August at Devenport Military Hospital, and was conveyed by rail to Barnston for interment. He was only 21 years of age, and was very well known and respected in the neighbourhood. As reported in last week’s edition, Private Fred Smith enlisted in the 13th Cheshires at the commencement of the war, and saw much fighting in France, and about six weeks ago he was seriously wounded, a bullet having passed through his chest.
