George's Story.

River Weaver Navigation Minutes, Volume 22, named in the Engineers Annual report of the 10th Nov. 1917, saying that Private George Senior, 2nd Cheshire Regiment had been killed. Service No 19694. (The 1917 report names 6 lads that had been killed. These lads had been killed at various dates since the outbreak of the war and do not necessarily relate to the date of the report.)

C.W.C.G. remember five lads named George Senior, four lads having family details which rules them out leaving a George Senior with the Service No 14964, (Different to that stated in the Annual Report.) with the 2nd Bn. Cheshire Reg’t. Died 25th May 1915 remembered at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. No family details added. (C.W.G.C. also record 4 lads named G. Senior, none of which have family details to confirm who they are.)

N.A.M.C. have a medal card for a George Senior with the Cheshire Reg’t., No 14964. The card records his death, K.I.A. 25-5-15, awarded the 15 Star, British and Victory Medals with the Theatre or War (1) France and Date of Entry 4-5-15. (George had just 3 weeks at the front before he was killed!)

The Cheshire Regiment book of soldiers killed in the Great War 1914-1919 includes a George Senior in the 2nd Regiment, born Northwich, enlisted Runcorn, No14964, Pte., K.I.A., F&F 25/5/15.

Runcorn Paper dated 21st Jan 1916. THE WAR. RUNCORN, WESTON POINT SOLDIERS DEATH.
The parents of Private George Senior of Clark’s Terrace, Weston Point, have received official intimation of his death whilst on active service. He had been missing for about seven months. Private Senior, who was 25 years of age,was employed at Weston Point Docks prior to the war. Soon after the outbreak of hostilities he joined the 2nd Cheshire Regiment and was drafted to the Continent in the June following. After having been in France only a short time he was reported missing. An adventurous and genial young man, his death is mourned by all who knew him.

The 1911 census records George Senior living with his family at Weston Point, he was born in Northwich, abt. 1887, his occupation was a Chemical Labourer. Father Joseph, mother Annie, brothers of Joseph (19) and Jack (11) and sister Beatrice (15)

I'm not aware of George Senior being named on a Memorial. Can I ask; could George be named on the Weston Point Church Memorial? It has been confirmed that George is named on the Weston Point Memorial. The Memorial has been re-located to Christ Church on Sandy Lane, Weston Point, Runcron.
