New Ferry Soldiers Killed.
SECOND OF THREE PATRIOT BROTHERS TO DIE.
Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Botham, of 22, Woodford Road, New Ferry, have received the sad news of the death in action of their son, Private Charles Henry Botham, of the 13th Cheshires (Wirral Pals). He joined the Army at the commencement of the war, and had been in France for some twelve months, where he had taken part in a great many battles of the hottest nature. Previous to the war he was employed Messrs. Price’s Candle Company, of Bromborough Pool, where he was held in the highest esteem by all his workmates.
The following letter has been received from Lieut. F. W. Lloyd, of the deceased’s Company, who writes : “It is with great regret that I have to inform you of your son’s death. He was a brave man, and he died nobly in action on Friday 7th, July, 1916. The battalion will keenly feel his loss. It is very hard to part with dear ones, but in your great sorrow the thought that he gave up his life for his country so that others might live will be and everlasting balm.”
The above newspaper article is recorded word for word and whilst it reports Charles’ death as the 7th July, his death is actually 9th July as confirmed by military records.
