Sidney Richard's Story.
On Monday last, respected Port Sunlight parents we're overwhelmed with grief when the news of the death of their soldier son became known. Sidney Richard Poole, the second son of Mr and Mrs Poole, of 8, Brook St, Port Sunlight, met his death whilst doing his duty serving with the Royal Horse Artillery on Salisbury plain. The horse he was riding shed some object and the unfortunate lad was thrown, the wheels of one of the guns of the battery passing over his head, and his death occurred a short time after.
Driver Poole was 20 years of age and joined the Army Service Corps at Harrow by Road 12 months last November, being afterwards transferred to the Royal Horse Artillery. He was an old member off the Port Sunlight Boys Brigade and an employee of Messrs Lever brothers. He was well liked by his fellow workers and his loss will be deeply felt.
The funeral will take place today (Saturday) at Christ Church, Port Sunlight, at 3:00 PM, when the unfortunate young soldier will be laid to rest with full military honours.
