HIGHER BEBINGTON SOLDIER’S DEATH

Sad news has been received by Mrs. W. R. Oultram of 89, School Lane, Higher Bebington, of the death of her husband, Private W. R. Oultram, 12th Cheshire Regiment. He joined the army on July 19th, 1917, and went to Salonica, in November, of the same year. After going through the most severe fighting he was wounded in the knee and elbow, and was removed from Salonica to hospital in Malta. He had almost recovered from his wounds and was on his way home, but on landing in Marseilles he was found to be suffering from a severe cold and was detained in hospital where he died after one week’s illness. The deceased soldier was very popular and very much respected by all who knew him. He was 29 years of age. Before joining the colours he was employed at Messrs. Lever Bros., Port Sunlight where he had been 16 years.
