Owen's Story.
Owen Walker ws the son of Mr and Mrs Walker of 6 Percival Lane, Runcorn.They received a letter from Owen prior to his death. from a hospital in Egypt, describing what a bright time he had had there during Christmas, and it was full of joy, and hope for the future. However, they had already received notification of his death after being ill ofr over 3 months.
He had only been away from home on active servcie for a year.
In July 1940, he had married Miss Constance E Billing of Stockton Heath, and they had moved into "Buena Vista" on Heath Road. He recieved his call up papers on the morning of his wedding day, and in October joined the Royal Armoured Corps, with whom he had been serving as a trooper.
Prior to joining up, he had been employed at the Salt Union works at Weston Point, and was a member of the works football team. He had two brothers who also joined the forces, Lance Corporal Leonard Walker, aged 24, R.A.S.C and his Samuel in the R.A.F.
