Samuel's Story.
Private Samuel Hinton 35088 died on 30th May 1920 of Phthisis, probably tuberculosis. He was 28 years old.
Samuel was the fifth son of Samuel Hinton (1854–1936) and Emma Broad (1857–1925). The family home was at 12 Heath View, Haslington, where he lived with his parents and brothers George Henry (1879–1893), Ernest (1882–1966), Frederick (1884–), Arthur (1887–1914), Harold (1894–) and Albert (1897–). His father was a gas stoker, and Samuel worked for London and North Western Railway Company, but in September 1914, aged 23 years, he was discharged due to "Reduction in staff". His character and abilities were described as "Good".

Samuel died of phthisis on 30th May 1920, and is buried at St Matthew's Churchyard, Haslington. Two of his brothers had predeceased him - George Henry, aged 14, and Arthur in 1914. On 12th November 1920, another brother, Harold, died at the age of 26.
