Birkenhead News  21 October 1916

Mr. James Price, of 130, Market Street, Hoylake, has received by the following letter from Lieut. Maybury intimation of the death in action of his son, Lance-Corporal William Price, of the Cheshire Regt. : - “I very much regret to inform you that your son, Lance-Corporal Wm. Price, was killed in action 9-10-1916, during a successful attack on an important enemy trench. He was in my platoon, and a very gallant soldier he was too, always ready to take on any job regardless of danger, and you have the consolation of knowing that he died doing his duty as a soldier, and a man.” The deceased was one of four brothers serving with the colours.
