John's Story.
Born and enlisted Nantwich. Son of John and Annie Evans of 16, Second Wood Street, Nantwich. Enlisted on February 6, 1913 and went to France (Le Havre) on August 16. Died in the 15th Field Ambulance (near Violaines) of a gun shot wound to the head. His cousin, Corporal Jeremiah Schofield, was killed in action in December 1914.
The Nantwich Guardian reported his death, November 17, 1914.
Notice has been received by Mrs. Evans, Second Wood Street, Nantwich, that her son, Private John Evans, 1st battalion Cheshire Regiment has been killed on October 20th. Evans who was within a month of hi s19th birthday, joined the Army when sixteen years of age.
