PTE. “BOB” JONES AMONGST THE FALLEN.
A well-known Rock Ferry man has made the great sacrifice in France. Mrs. Jones, who is at present residing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harden, at 123, Bedford Road, has received the news of the death in action of her husband, Pte. Robert Jones, on April 19th, whilst taking part in the great offensive. Pte. Jones who enlisted at the outbreak of war in the Wirral “Pals”, was aged 36, and was well-known to the residents of the South End. Previous to being employed at Messrs. Lever Bros. he was a postman in the district. He had been out at the front many months, and had been previously wounded, only recently returning to active duty. He leaves a wife and child, to whom much sympathy is extended.
The newspaper report of Robert’s death is recorded word for word and states he died in France. However, the Commonwealth War Graves database and military records correctly document his death and burial in Gaza.
