Arthur's Story.
Second Lieutenant Arthur Palfreyman, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, died of wounds received in action on 11 October 1916. The son of Mr and Mrs Palfreyman of Leigh Cottage, Norley, he was educated at Sandbach County School and worked under Mr Harrison before joining the Royal Welsh Fusiliers on 2 September 1914.
Proceeding to the Western Front with his regiment, he served for two and a half years, advancing from the ranks to receive a commission on the recommendation of his commanding officer. He returned to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers as a second lieutenant shortly after his twenty-third birthday. News of his death reached his family within three weeks of his promotion. His father had previously served for many years on the staff of the Cheshire Kennels at the Bottom Kennel House.
