Thomas William's Story.

The Late Private William Slack

Official news has been received by Mrs. Slack, of Kings Lane Nantwich, of the death of her husband, Private William Slack, of the Cheshire Regiment. He was gassed on the 4 November and died on the following day. Private Slack, who was 32 years of age, was one of four brothers who joined the army in the early days of the war. He was a special reservist when war broke out, and at once reported for service. He served with the Cheshire Regiment in many hard-fought battles and on three occasions was wounded. Private Slack was an old player of the Nantwich football club and of the Congleton club. He was goalkeeper for a time for Nantwich and then he became their centre half back. The season before the war broke out, he played for Congleton. He was a brother of Private Patsy Slack, one of the oldest members of the professional ground staff of the Lancashire County Cricket Club. He leaves a wife and three children
