Walter 's Story.

Born Nantwich, enlisted Liverpool. Son of Henry (Harry) Riley of 32, Millstone Lane, Nantwich. He was educated at Nantwich & Acton Grammar School and employed by the Urban Council Works and then the West Kirby Gas & Water Company at Hoylake. Went to France (Le Havre) on November 16, 1915. The nursing sister at No.33 Casualty Clearing Station in France wrote to his father: ‘I am sorry to have some sad news for you concerning Rifleman Riley, who was admitted to this hospital unconscious severely wounded in the head early this morning (the 29th) and who passed away a few hours later, never regaining consciousness. He will be buried in the cemetery by the C of E clergy. With much sympathy E. Pilkington (Sister).’
