John's Story.
John was the son of james and Emily Hopley and born in Ellesmere, Shropshire. at the time of his enlistment he was living in the village of Malpas just outside Chester.In 1911, John is listed as a servent living in Church Street, Malpas, with Hariet taylor a baker and the Pontz family.
He entered France as a driver on 15th July 1917.
He joined up with one of his friends David Davies, numbered 36837, who is buried next to John in grave V A 14, having died on the same day.
John is remembered on the Malpas Memorial but mispelt as "HORLEY J"
