Neston’s Gallant Sons.

The Eighteenth to Die.

Much sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jones, of Little Neston, who have received official intimation of the death in action of their third son, Edward who belonged to the King’s Liverpool Regt. He was killed on October 18th. He was aged 25 years, and is the 18th from Neston parish to lay down his life for his country. Many messages of condolence have been received including one from the King and Queen, and also the following from his captain :- “I am writing to condole with you in the sad loss of your son, Pte. E. Jones, and at the same time I would like to add what a loss it is to myself and the men of this company. He was a most useful soldier, and always did his work in an able an unselfish manner. I need hardly tell you that the officers and men of this company deeply regret his death, and wish to tender to you our deepest sympathy. I have had his effects collected and am sending them herewith. – Yours sincerely, H. E. Coates.”
