LANCE-CORPORAL WALTER LEADBETTER

Falls In Action

Official word has been received from the War Office by Mrs. Leadbetter that her youngest son has fallen in action. Lance Corporal Walter Leadbetter, who was the youngest son of the late Mr. John Leadbetter and of Mrs. Leadbetter, 14, Derby Street, Oxton Road, joined as a private in the motor transport division of the A.S.C. in the early spring of 1915. He spent 12 months in Gallipoli, where he was wounded. He then was transferred to France, where he was killed in action on the 20th of December, his mother receiving the sad news on the 29th of December.  Mrs Leadbetter, who has two other sons serving, is prostrate with grief at the heavy blow.
