George's Story.

SERGEANT G. WALKER.

Sergeant George Walker, R.E., was killed in action on the 30th November. Prior to joining the Colours he was employed as a fitter at the Locomotive Steam Sheds, Preston. He was the only son of Mr. George Walker, 282, Walthall-street, and was well known in Crewe. He was a capable cricketer, and played with the Crewe Alexandra for some time. As a member of the St. John's Club, he was one of the best shots on the miniature range. He also served in B Company of the late Crewe Engineers, and was a member of the Crewe Conservative Club.
He joined the Army in December, 1914, and for more than two years was an instructor at a Welsh depot. He was drafted to the front in May last with the rank of corporal, but his abilities soon commended themselves to his superiors, and he was promoted to sergeant. He was 30 years of age.
