Douglas's Story.

Died of Wounds.

Private D. Swinton.

Mr. John Swinton, 19, Bedford Street, Stockton Heath, highway surveyor to the Runcorn Rural District Council, received news last week that his son, Private Douglas Swinton, of the King's (Liverpool Regiment), was lying in a casualty clearing station suffering from severe gunshot wounds in the left side, and that he was dangerously ill. Later came the news from the War Office that Private Swinton died on the 19th inst.
Private Swinton, who was 23 years of age, joined the Lancashire Hussars in October 1915. He held the rank of corporal until he transferred to the Kings (Liverpool Regiment), when he was sent to the front early this year. He was educated at St. Thomas’ School, Stockton Heath and as a boy was a member of the choir of St. Thomas’ Church. In civil life he was a member of the office staff of Messrs. Joseph Crosfield and Sons, Ltd.
He has four brothers serving. Stanley, Harold, and Cyril our troopers in the Lancashire Hussars, and Lance Corporal Arthur Swinton is serving with the Royal Engineers.
