Lost on the Hampshire

Tranmere Lad’s Fate

Among the victims of the disaster to H.M.S. Hampshire, which cost the Empire the loss of it’s greatest soldier, was stoker Walter Victor Suckley, a member of the crew. He resided with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Walter P. Suckley, at 3, Fountain Street, Higher Tranmere, and prior to joining the Navy, was an employee of the West Cheshire Brewing Co. He was educated at St. Catherine’s School, and received many valuable presents from masters and scholars on visiting the school recently.
