Thomas Ingham's Story.
Thomas was born in St. Helens in 1886, third child of Samuel and Annie Smith (nee Fairhurst), the family later moved to Thelwall Lane, Latchford, Warrington.
Prior to enlisting Thomas was employed as a labourer at the Lancashire Tool Company in Lymm.
He married Sarah Jane Gregg at St Mary’s Church on 26 December 1911 and settled down to married life at 1 Moston Street, Lymm.
Thomas initially enlisted with the Cheshire Regiment in July 1917 before transferring to the Machine Gun Corps and was despatched to the front in December 1917.
He was killed by the concussion from a shell at Festubert on 9 April 1918 and was buried in a small cemetery in Le Plantin. He was later interred at Brown’s Road Military Cemetery in Festubert, France.
