Matthew Ollier's Story.
Matthew Ollier Bostock was born in Knutsford in 1896, one of five children born to William Bostock (a bricklayers labourer) and Elisabeth Bostwick. They lived at 44, Silk Mill Street, Knutsford, but later mover to 1, Bakehouse Yard, Knutsford. On leaving school Matthew started work as an apprentice plumber.
His service records no longer exist but we know he joined the army in 1914 and became Private 1551 in the 1/5 Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment and arrived in France on the 15 February 1915. The records show he 'DIED' on the 17 June 1915. The battalion war diary for the day shows that one man was killed by accidental discharge of a rifle.
