Struck by Shrapnel.
A large number of people in Birkenhead, especially in Higher Tranmere, will feel very keenly the loss of Corporal Thomas Towers Parrott, of “C” Co. of the 4th Cheshires, who has been killed in action by shrapnel in the Dardanelles. He was the youngest son of Mrs. E. F. Parrott and the late William Parrott, of 28, Stuart Road, Higher Tranmere, and news of his death is contained in a letter home from a comrade.
Corporal Parrott was 28 years old, and lived at home with his mother. He was very popular amongst a wide circle of friends, and for many years had been connected with the Y.M.C.A., being also a very keen footballer. He had belonged to the 4th Cheshires for eleven years ever since he was about 16, and possessed the “crossed rifles” badge for marksmanship. Before being called to the colours for this war he had been in business with Messrs. Wall and Co., provision merchants, of Liverpool.
