Private William Onions.

Killed outright by a shell.

In a letter to the widow of Private William Onions, of 25, Heath Street one of his comrades breaks the sad news of her husband's death, which was caused by an enemy shell in the recent battle in France. The letter also contains the genuine sympathy of his comrades and speaks in high terms of his courage and cheerfulness whilst with them.
Private Onions in listed in the South Wales Borderers some three years ago and had been in France for close on two years. 34 years of age, he came to Warrington as a young man from Birmingham. Prior to enlisting he was employed at the Stockton Heath Spade works. He leaves for little children.
