Birkenhead News  25 November 1916

A Trustworthy Soldier

Killed in Action.

The sad intimation has been received by the parents of Private Matthew Mulholland, of the Cheshire Regt., that their son has been killed in action. Pte. Mulholland, previous to joining the Army, lived with his parents at 9, St. Mary’s Street, Birkenhead, and was employed at Messrs. Buchanan’s Flour Mills. He joined four months after the outbreak of war, and took part in the Dardanelles campaign, where he lost his hearing and was sent to England to recover his health. On his recovery he was sent with a draft to the Western front, and was killed on the 10th October. Mr. and Mrs. Mulholland have received a sympathetic letter from the sergeant of their late son’s company, who says that Pte. Mulholland was a hard-working and trustworthy soldier. Two of the late soldier’s brothers also joined up. Peter Mulholland is a prisoner in Germany, and Arthur Mulholland is with the R.A.M.C. in England.
