Gilbert Vero's Story.
Gilbert was born on 26 June 1895 in Widnes to Mary and George LLoyd. In 1901 they are found living at 54 Greenway Road. He had two brothers and a sister Percy , Wilfred and Doris,
In 1911 Gilbert has left the family home at the age of 15 and is listed as an apprentice fitter living at 5 Alcock Street, Runcorn in a shared house.
In March 1914 he was appointed by the postal service and it was into this service he joined the war effort in the Royal Engineers. He was sent overseas on 12th October 1914 and was awarded the 14 star.
Gilbert was sent to Salonika, modern day Greece, and died in 1917. No information can be found regarding the nature of his death.
