Ralph's Story.
Ralph Kettell was born on 11 November 1895, the son of Ralph and Mary Kettell. In 1911 he was living at 46 Cemetery Road Crewe and was described as a railway goods clerk working for the London & North West Railway. In July 1913 he started working for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co. (now part of RBS)
In May 1916 he left his job at the bank's Crewe branch to go on military service, becoming a Private in the 1/4th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment (number 235367) He was killed in action on the Western Front on 20 September 1917. He was 21 years old.
He is buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery and remembered on the War Memorial Crewe and also at St Michael's Church, Coppenhall, Crewe,
